Nigerian writers recognized at Ignyte and Future Awards Africa

Several Nigerian authors have received recognition at major literary ceremonies. At the 2026 Ignyte Awards, Somto Ihezue won Outstanding Novelette for ‘We Begin Where Infinity Ends,’ following his recent Locus Award win. Albert Nkereuwem also secured a trophy for Outstanding Short Story for ‘Commensalism, Or the Labyrinth’s Vessels.’

In a separate development, four Nigerian writers—Damilare Kuku, Fatima Bala, Eloghosa Osunde, and Peter Okonkwo—have been nominated for the Literature category at the 20th edition of The Future Awards Africa (TFAA). The upcoming ceremony in Lagos will feature a theme centered on Africa’s AI generation.

Regarding the TFAA nominations, writer Somto Ihezue reportedly requested the removal of his name from the shortlist after learning the awards intended to celebrate the use of AI in storytelling.
