Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation faces internal leadership and audit disputes

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) is facing significant internal fractures following a dispute regarding the handling of an Auditor-General’s report on the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

In Eswatini, the local NIDO chapter has formally broken ranks with NIDO Worldwide. The Eswatini leadership criticized the global body for using the NiDCOM audit controversy as a political tool and demanded that NIDO Worldwide release its own audited financial reports to demonstrate transparency. The chapter argued that statutory government bodies should be allowed to complete their investigations into NiDCOM without interference from the diaspora organization.

Simultaneously, NIDO Europe (NIDOE) has dissociated itself from statements issued by NIDO Worldwide regarding the NiDCOM audit. NIDOE reaffirmed Harold Ogunfemi as its chairman, disputing claims made by Chibuzo Ubochi. The European branch noted that Ogunfemi’s leadership was established through a constitutional electoral process in 2024 and has not been overturned by judicial proceedings.
