Nigeria's 2026 budget missing online, civil groups demand transparency

Nigeria lacks a reliable public mechanism to scrutinise the national budget, as the official Budget Office of the Federation portal is frequently offline. Civil society organisation Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) has publicly questioned the federal government's failure to upload the 2026 budget to the website. CSJ issued a 48‑hour ultimatum, urging the government to make the budget available online to enhance transparency and curb corruption.

The lack of an accessible online budget hampers citizens' ability to monitor public spending, prompting calls for a functional digital monitoring system to address the opacity.
