Nigeria's ADC and NDC parties see leadership resignations

Abdulrahman Buba Zaune, the Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State, submitted a resignation letter on August 5, 2026, ending his party membership. The letter thanked the ADC for opportunities at local, state and national levels but did not state his next political move. His departure comes a day after All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Jamilu Gwamna visited Zaune’s home area, prompting speculation that Zaune may defect to the ruling party. The resignation follows the earlier exit of ADC State Secretary Ahmed Gana, who also joined the APC to support Gwamna’s campaign.

In Enugu State, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) issued a statement disowning Dr. Johnpaul Anih as the party’s chairman. The NDC reiterated that its national leadership recognizes Engr. Ibuchukwu Obeta as the authentic state chairman and that a High Court judgment merely declined jurisdiction over internal party matters, leaving the national leadership’s position unchanged. The Enugu chapter warned supporters to disregard claims that the court validated Anih’s claim to leadership.
