Nigeria's AI push: infrastructure roundtable and emerging local founders

On July 8 in Abuja, senior government officials, regulators and technology leaders gathered for an Infrastructure Solutions Roundtable hosted by Africa Hyperscalers and Vertiv. The closed‑door session examined Nigeria’s capacity to support AI, cloud and large‑scale digital services, focusing on power reliability, data‑centre resilience, low‑latency connectivity and regulatory frameworks needed for the country's AI ecosystem.

At the same time, Nigeria’s homegrown AI sector is gaining momentum. A recent profile highlighted ten AI founders building locally relevant solutions, such as YarnGPT’s Nigerian‑accent text‑to‑speech system and Intron Health’s voice AI that converts clinicians’ speech into structured records across multiple African languages. Significant venture funding, strategic acquisitions and partnerships with global tech firms underscore a shift from being AI consumers to creators within the nation.
