Nigeria's AMCON launches NTEL divestment after N165bn debt recovery
The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) announced that it recovered about ₦165 billion from debtors in the first half of 2026, a 64 percent rise from the ₦107 billion recovered in the same period a year earlier. The corporation said the recovery supports its mandate to maximise value from distressed assets.
AMCON also confirmed it has begun a transparent, structured divestment process for its interest in NTEL/NATCOM, the successor to the defunct Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL). The telecom company has completed a three‑pronged transformation aimed at strengthening operational competitiveness, maximising enterprise value and preparing for long‑term sustainability under new ownership. Managing Director and CEO Gbenga Alade expressed confidence that NTEL’s repositioning will attract credible strategic investors and become a major success story for the sector. The agency reported a cost‑to‑recovery ratio of 2.3 percent for the period.
