Nigeria's anti-corruption task force urges continent‑wide integrity push

The Inter‑Agency Task Team (IATT) held a high‑level seminar in Abuja on July 11, marking the 2026 African Anti‑Corruption Day, calling for renewed commitment to integrity, transparency and accountability across Africa. Speakers included Jane Onwumere, head of Nigeria’s Technical Unit on Governance and Anti‑Corruption Reforms, who emphasized embedding integrity in daily decisions and praised partners such as the EU‑RoLAC II programme and UNODC.

Dr Musa Aliyu, chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), echoed the theme “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti‑Corruption Actions Across Africa,” citing a CAACC study showing 80 % of respondents see corruption as frequent. He urged collaboration among governments, civil society and the private sector, highlighted youth‑focused anti‑corruption programmes, and noted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthen institutions and deploy technology to curb corruption.
