Nigeria's APC grapples with internal rifts and ADC criticism ahead of 2027 election
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of prioritising attacks on opposition figure Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over addressing Nigeria’s deepening poverty, insecurity and cost‑of‑living crisis. The ADC statement cited the shutdown of 767 factories and distress for 335 others, and criticised the APC for deflecting criticism from Catholic bishops who highlighted the nation’s deteriorating conditions.
In Oyo State, the APC launched a reconciliation committee after its governorship primaries to mend internal divisions and restore confidence. The committee, chaired by party leaders, is consulting aspirants and stakeholders to unite the party behind its candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, for the 2027 general elections. Both developments underscore growing intra‑party tensions as the ruling party prepares for the upcoming electoral cycle.
