Nigeria's APC sees senior defections and denial of rumour

Former House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole announced his intention to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after a meeting with APC chairman Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee leader Mai Mala Buni and Jigawa State Governor Mohammed Badaru. The move was disclosed by Yobe State Governor’s press secretary, indicating a widening of APC influence in Ogun State.

Separately, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje publicly rejected circulating posters that claimed he had defected to the New Democratic Congress. Ganduje described the claims as “false, mischievous and politically motivated,” affirmed his continued loyalty to the APC and warned of legal action against those spreading the misinformation. Both events illustrate ongoing realignments and internal challenges within Nigeria’s ruling party ahead of future elections.
