ADC faces defections, leadership fights and primaries scramble ahead of 2027 election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is undergoing a series of internal upheavals as Nigeria heads toward the 2027 presidential election. In Gombe State, ADC secretary Dr. Ahmed Gana and House aspirant Hon. Mohammed Bello defected to the All Progressives Congress, citing development goals and pledging support for Dr. Jamilu Gwamna. Former vice‑president and ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar welcomed the military rescue of 360 abductees in Borno and called for intensified efforts to free other captives while urging security reforms.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir David Lawal launched a fresh attack on Atiku, questioning his competence and urging the party to replace him as candidate. Ex‑SSS chief Lawal Daura rejected the ADC’s candidate‑selection process in Katsina, demanding transparent primaries and warning of legal action. Meanwhile, former Kano deputy governor Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna is in advanced talks with ADC leaders to secure the party’s governorship ticket for the 2027 election, seeking a consensus arrangement that would see other aspirants step aside.
