Nigeria's CAN President calls for Christian-Muslim cooperation

Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has called for increased practical cooperation between Christian and Muslim leaders to address the nation's pressing challenges. Speaking at a Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) meeting in Abuja themed ‘Shared Sacred Flourishing in Nigeria’, Okoh emphasized that religious communities must move beyond mere tolerance toward collective action.

Okoh identified insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and communal tensions as critical issues requiring a united front. He stated that while religious groups should not compromise their distinct beliefs, they should utilize their moral and social influence to promote reconciliation, ethical leadership, and the protection of the vulnerable. He argued that national progress should be measured not just by economic growth, but by the security, dignity, and opportunities available to all citizens, particularly the youth.
