Nigeria's Civil Defence Corps Boosts Intelligence Ops Against Infrastructure Crime

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has shifted its role under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, with oversight by Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo and Commandant General Abubakar Audi. The corps is now emphasizing intelligence‑led operations to tackle organised crime that undermines the nation’s economy, including the theft of electricity and telecommunications cables, illegal mining, arms manufacturing, and counterfeiting.

Recent actions include the dismantling of a syndicate stealing infrastructure assets across the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states, the arrest of major buyers of stolen materials, and the court‑ordered sealing of Inner Galaxy Steel Company and Jiuxing Integrity Industrial Ltd for allegedly processing vandalised assets. Authorities also uncovered a local arms‑manufacturing factory in Yobe State, highlighting the expanded scope of NSCDC’s intelligence‑driven enforcement.
