Nigeria's Consumer Goods Firms Post Strong Profit Gains in Early 2026
Nestlé Nigeria Plc reported a 28% rise in profit after tax to N64.78 billion for the first half of 2026, with revenue increasing 12% to N650.76 billion. The company highlighted a much stronger balance sheet and disclosed that its water business will be transferred to a new 50:50 joint venture, Peranel, created with Nestlé S.A. and private‑equity firm Platinum Equity.
In the country’s brewing sector, listed manufacturers generated a combined profit after tax of N86.95 billion for the quarter ended 31 March 2026, a 6.2% year‑on‑year increase despite rising inflation and input costs. Nigerian Breweries Plc and Guinness Nigeria Plc drove the bulk of earnings growth, while International Breweries Plc saw profit fall due to higher tax expenses. The results illustrate how major Nigerian consumer‑goods companies are maintaining profitability amid a challenging economic environment.
