Nigeria Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu flags fake PFIPC scheme

Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, told parliament he was deceived by a group presenting itself as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The organization sent a letter dated 2 May 2025 on presidential letterhead, listed an address at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and used a "pfipc.gov.ng" domain, leading Kalu’s office to verify its physical presence.

When the delegation met with Kalu, they largely ignored the policy issues outlined in the letter and focused on taking photographs. Kalu said the incident exposed how official‑looking documents and government branding can be misused. He urged the House to investigate how the purported council secured office space, interacted with senior officials and was allocated more than N1.3 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act, despite the presidency publicly denying its existence.

The motion, supported by other lawmakers, calls for an inquiry into the council’s inclusion in the budget and broader safeguards against fraudulent agencies infiltrating public institutions.
