Nigeria's EFCC arraigns three over N42 million contract fraud in Maiduguri

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Maiduguri arraigned Aisha Alkali Wakil, Sa’idu Tahiru Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyede before Justice Jude K. Dagat of the Borno State Federal High Court on a two‑count charge of obtaining N42 million by false pretence.

The alleged fraud involved ABAKS Ventures Nigeria Limited, which the defendants claimed would deliver the money for a purported sub‑leased contract of the NGO Complete Care and Aid Foundation. The prosecution said the contract was fictitious. Daura entered a guilty plea, while Wakil and Shoyede pleaded not guilty. The court remanded all three to the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility and adjourned the matter to 25 June 2026 for Daura’s sentencing and the commencement of trial against the other two defendants.
