Nigeria's EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede Leads Anti‑Corruption Revamp
Since his appointment, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has transformed Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from a reactive law‑enforcement unit into a proactive agency focused on prevention, large‑scale asset recovery and institutional compliance. The commission’s intelligence‑driven operations have resulted in the arrest of nearly 200 foreign nationals—including citizens of China, the Philippines, Indonesia and Pakistan—connected to transnational cyber‑crime and sextortion schemes. The U.S. Consulate in Nigeria and the FBI publicly praised the EFCC for these actions and for its capacity to conduct joint investigations and support victims.
Through “Operation Eagle Flush,” seized assets such as bunk beds and mattresses were transferred to the Federal Ministry of Education for public use. The agency’s aggressive asset tracing helped Nigeria exit the Financial Action Task Force grey list and recover hundreds of billions of naira for the federal treasury. Domestic reforms include mandatory registration of point‑of‑sale operators, enhanced public‑enlightenment programs and stricter e‑procurement rules. Olukoyede has received national awards and dozens of EFCC staff have earned FBI Cyber Division certifications, underscoring the commission’s new preventive and restorative focus.
