Abubakar Malami's forfeiture case judgment postponed to July 10

The Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned judgment in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) forfeiture suit against former Attorney‑General Abubakar Malami. The court, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, set a new hearing date of 10 July for the final decision on the seizure of 57 properties that the EFCC alleges were acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.

EFCC counsel Jibrin Okutepa presented a 47‑paragraph affidavit with 46 exhibits urging the court to permanently forfeit the assets. Malami’s lawyer, Adedayo Adedeji, submitted a 109‑paragraph affidavit arguing the properties were not proceeds of crime and that the EFCC’s case rests on suspicion rather than solid evidence. The judge gave no explanation for the delay and simply adjourned the matter.

The postponed judgment comes as Malami also faces separate criminal proceedings in Abuja involving alleged money‑laundering and illegal possession of firearms.
