Nigeria's Federal Government launches multipurpose dam project in Plateau State
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the construction of a multi‑billion‑naira multipurpose dam in the Gile community of Kanke Local Government Area, Plateau State. The project aims to end more than a century of water scarcity by supplying potable water, irrigation, livestock water, electricity, and access roads, and by extending a water‑reticulation network to neighbouring communities.
The site was inspected by Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, accompanied by APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and Plateau State Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy Bashir Lawandi Datti. Yilwatda called the dam a "transformational" intervention that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s "Renewed Hope" agenda, emphasizing job creation, agricultural development, and broader rural infrastructure such as schools and health facilities.
