Nigeria's FRSC Commits to Safety Framework for EV and CNG Vehicles
At the 3rd Nigeria Auto Industry Summit (NAISU) in Lagos, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Marshal Shehu Mohammed pledged a comprehensive safety, regulatory and enforcement framework to support the nationwide adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s clean‑mobility agenda and aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, enhance energy security, promote environmental sustainability and stimulate economic growth.
The FRSC will strengthen vehicle inspection protocols, improve emergency response capabilities, expand crash reporting through the National Crash Reporting Information System (NACRIS), and launch nationwide public‑enlightenment campaigns on the safe use of emerging vehicle technologies. Collaboration with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi‑CNG), the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) is also outlined to ensure a robust safety ecosystem for the transition to cleaner transportation.
