Nigeria's FRSC launches nationwide special road safety patrols, deploying 3,339 personnel in the capital

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria has deployed 3,339 staff, 69 patrol vehicles, 18 ambulances, four tow trucks and 24 motorbikes for "Operation Sauka Lafiya" in the Federal Capital Territory. The operation, announced by Assistant Corps Marshal Comfort Asom, aims to strengthen road‑safety enforcement, improve traffic flow and reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities through intensified patrols, vehicle inspections and public education.

At the same time, the FRSC has rolled out a Zonal Special Intervention Patrol (ZSIP) covering all twelve zonal commands. Beginning 20 July, each zone will run a tailored, code‑named operation to address its most common traffic‑violation patterns, such as Operation Fushin Zuma in Kaduna, Operation Ride Safe in Bauchi, Operation Shark Smile in Port Harcourt, Operation ABO in Lagos and Operation Sauka Lafiya in Abuja. The coordinated effort is intended to cut road‑traffic deaths, curb illegal driving behaviours and make Nigerian roads safer nationwide.
