Nigeria's ICPC Partners with INEC to Safeguard 2027 Election Integrity

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held a joint sensitisation workshop in Abuja, announcing a partnership aimed at delivering a free, fair and credible general election in 2027. ICPC Chairman Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu stressed that electoral corruption drives up costs and strains law‑enforcement resources, and said the collaboration will build capacity, share best practices and produce actionable recommendations for electoral officers.

International development partners, including UNDP, the World Bank, the EU, ECOWAS and the African Union, have also pressed INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan to strictly follow the Electoral Act in handling the ongoing controversy over candidate substitutions by the All Progressives Congress. The partners warned that any deviation from the law could undermine public confidence, trigger litigation and disrupt the election timetable.
