Nigeria's INEC says three parties miss deadline for 2027 presidential candidate filings

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that three political parties failed to upload their presidential and vice‑presidential candidates to the INEC portal before the extended deadline of 11:59 pm on Tuesday, 14 July. The parties cited are the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Nyesom Wike, and the Labour Party faction led by Nenadi Usman. INEC officials said no further extensions will be granted and that almost all other registered parties have successfully completed their submissions.

The missed deadline comes ahead of Nigeria’s scheduled 2027 presidential election on 16 January 2027. INEC will now begin processing the filings it has received in line with the Electoral Act. The commission warned that parties still required to submit their candidates may face procedural consequences.

Other major parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), have already uploaded their candidates' details, according to INEC data.
