On 1 August 2026 the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began the statutory public display of Form EC9 for all presidential and National Assembly candidates contesting Nigeria’s 2027 general election. The exercise, required by Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026, makes each candidate’s personal particulars, academic credentials and sworn affidavits available for inspection at the INEC headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, at state commission offices and at local‑government offices across the country.

The displayed documents include the filings of the major contenders: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (All Progressives Congress) with running‑mate Vice‑President Kashim Shettima, former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar (African Democratic Congress) with Rotimi Amaechi, and former Anambra governor Peter Obi (Nigeria Democratic Congress). Tinubu’s form records only his B.Sc. in Business Administration from Chicago State University (1979) and leaves primary and secondary school entries blank, whereas Shettima’s form lists complete primary, secondary and university education. The publication also lists candidates from other parties, such as PDP’s Sandy Onor, AAC’s Omoyele Sowore and many others, bringing the total to 19 presidential candidates and their running mates.

The INEC statement urges the public, political parties, civil‑society groups and the media to examine the documents and notes that any person who believes a candidate has submitted false information may seek legal redress in court under the Electoral Act.
