Nigeria's intra‑party battles heat up ahead of 2027 elections

In Katsina State, African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Salisu Uli rejected claims that he is a proxy candidate, stating “I am nobody’s proxy; my candidacy came from God.” He highlighted deep factional splits within the ADC, detailed failed reconciliation talks and a pending Court of Appeal case, and outlined a seven‑point agenda to address insecurity, unemployment and weak health services ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

In Delta State, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo‑Agege accused President Bola Tinubu of issuing a 60:40 power‑sharing directive between the incumbent APC structure and newer entrants. He argued that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ignored the arrangement, limiting Omo‑Agege’s influence despite his strong showing in party primaries. Both politicians used the disputes to call for party unity while positioning themselves for the upcoming 2027 elections.
