Nigeria's NAFDAC launches nationwide crackdown on sachet and small PET bottle alcohol
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has begun a coordinated nationwide operation to seize alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles smaller than 200 ml. The enforcement drive follows the Federal Government's ban on the production, import, distribution, sale and use of such small‑volume alcohol.
Teams are operating across the six geopolitical zones, targeting markets, motor parks, retail outlets, bars and other distribution points. Manufacturers, importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers and transporters have been instructed to surrender any remaining stock, with violations subject to seizure, regulatory sanctions and prosecution. NAFDAC says the action aims to protect public health, curb under‑age drinking and reduce harmful alcohol consumption among children and young people, and urges the public to report suspected offenders.
