Nigeria's NAHCON begins training for Hajj operators
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has launched a two-day professional training programme for licensed Hajj and Umrah tour operators in Kano and Lagos. The initiative, held on October 26 and 27, 2026, aims to enhance regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and pilgrim welfare.
Organized by the Hajj Institute of Nigeria in collaboration with the Association of Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria and the Hajj and Umrah Tour Operators Association of Nigeria, the programme prepares operators for shifts in the global pilgrimage industry. These changes are driven by Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 reforms and a new business-to-business model designed to increase private-sector involvement.
NAHCON Chairman Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf announced that the commission has secured a three-year phased transition arrangement with Saudi authorities. This plan begins in 2027 with 30 per cent private-sector participation, allowing Nigeria time to strengthen its regulatory frameworks and prepare operators for expanded responsibilities. Yusuf emphasized that pilgrim welfare must take priority over commercial interests.
