Nigeria's National Youth Service Corps announces 2026 orientation amid reform plans

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nigeria is moving forward with two major developments. A set of proposed reforms aims to modernise the scheme, adding a skill‑oriented orientation programme, extending the camp period from three to six weeks, introducing security‑conscious deployment, specialised service streams, civilian leadership training, replacing the passing‑out parade with a graduation ceremony and adding the traditional Adire fabric to the uniform. The reforms were preceded by an online survey that gathered feedback from corps members and the public.

Separately, NYSC has scheduled the 2026 Batch B Stream II orientation to start on 5 August and run until 25 August, covering all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Prospective corps members can retrieve their call‑up numbers via NYSC dashboards, with call‑up letters to follow. Director‑General Brig‑Gen Olakunle Nafiu congratulated the graduates and urged safe travel to the camps. The announcement follows the successful Batch B Stream I orientation held from 10 June to 30 June, with the Niger State camp later rescheduled to 7‑27 July after damage to its facilities.
