Nigeria's NDLEA warns public of fake vehicle auction scams

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) issued a warning that scammers are impersonating senior agency officials, notably Secretary Shadrach Haruna, to lure Nigerians with offers of forfeited vehicles sold at discounted private auctions. The agency stressed that no NDLEA official has authority to privately allocate or sell seized assets; all forfeited vehicles are disposed of solely through publicly advertised auctions conducted by government‑approved auctioneers and announced in national newspapers and official channels.

The NDLEA urged the public to disregard any private letters, texts, emails or social‑media messages claiming to offer such vehicles and to report suspicious approaches to the nearest NDLEA command. The statement, signed by Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to transparency and due‑process in asset disposal.
