Nigeria's NEMA pushes flood early‑warning system, vows transparency
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) of Nigeria held a high‑level inter‑agency meeting at its headquarters to prepare for the national launch of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative, aimed at improving flood and climate‑related hazard management. Director General Zubaida Umar described the gathering as a milestone for strengthening coordination among partners such as the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, the National Space Research and Development Agency, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. Participants agreed on practical steps to ensure early‑warning information reaches at‑risk communities.
In a separate session with the Federal Character Commission in Abuja, NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to the Federal Character principle, pledging transparency, fairness and due process in its operations. Umar emphasized that the agency will continue to uphold these standards while collaborating with ministries, departments and agencies across the government.
