Nigeria's NIMASA Commits to Green Shipping and Maritime Decarbonisation

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to advancing maritime decarbonisation and promoting green‑shipping practices. In a meeting with Natural Eco Capital Ltd. CEO Dr Eugene Itua, the two discussed the Nigerian Green Shipping Excellence Programme (NGSEP) and the Green Maritime Recognition Scheme (GMRS), initiatives aimed at accelerating a low‑carbon maritime sector, attracting climate‑focused investment and positioning Nigeria as a regional leader in sustainable shipping.

Mobereola stressed that collaboration with the private sector and innovative, practical approaches are essential to safeguard the marine environment, support the blue economy and enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
