Nigerian Maritime Agency Commits to Green Shipping and Decarbonisation

Director‑General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to green shipping and maritime decarbonisation. In a meeting with Natural Eco Capital Limited CEO Dr. Eugene Itua, he endorsed the Nigerian Green Shipping Excellence Programme (NGSEP) and the Green Maritime Recognition Scheme (GMRS), initiatives aimed at accelerating the adoption of cleaner fuels, digital optimisation tools and stronger marine environmental protection.

The programmes are positioned to attract climate‑focused investment, lower emissions in line with the International Maritime Organization’s net‑zero target for 2050, and bolster the competitiveness of Nigeria’s blue‑economy agenda led by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola.
