NIMASA partners with ILO training centre to boost maritime capacity

The Director General of Nigeria’s Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, said that investment in human capacity development is central to the agency’s vision of a robust maritime industry. At a signing ceremony in Turin, Italy, NIMASA entered a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organisation (ITC‑ILO). The MoU aims to develop NIMASA’s institutional capacity through targeted technical assistance, training and capacity‑building for agency staff and other maritime stakeholders, reinforcing structured programmes for maritime professionals. Dr. Mobereola noted that the partnership will enhance training for maritime labour inspectors, policymakers and trainers on the implementation of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. ITC‑ILO Director Christopher Perrin pledged that the centre will deploy its faculty and resources to support Nigeria’s quest for sustainable human capacity development. The agreement follows several interactions and strategic meetings between the two organisations, involving senior officials from both sides.
