Nigeria's NiMet warns of thunderstorms and rain nationwide through Tuesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) issued a weather outlook covering Sunday through Tuesday. It forecast sunny skies with patchy clouds in the northern region on Sunday, while parts of Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna were expected to see morning thunderstorms with moderate rain.
Later on Sunday, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall were projected for large swaths of the country, including Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states. The North‑Central zone (Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory) and parts of Kogi, Benue and Nasarawa were also slated for afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
In the southern region, moderate rains were forecast for Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa in the morning, expanding to the whole region later in the day. On Monday, similar patterns were expected with morning thunderstorms over Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba, and widespread showers across the north‑east and north‑central states. Tuesday would see partly cloudy conditions in the north and further thunderstorms with moderate rain across many states.
