Nigeria's NSITF Pays $31m to Federal Workers' Families
The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) presented the first compensation cheques under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme, totaling N31,720,570, to five beneficiaries from federal ministries, departments and agencies in Abuja. Managing Director Oluwaseun Faleye said the payments fulfil the legal promise of the Employees’ Compensation Act of 2010, moving the guarantee from paper to practice.
Head of the Civil Service Didi Esther Walson‑Jack described the disbursement as a statutory entitlement and a landmark step in strengthening social protection for federal civil servants. She highlighted the recent memorandum of understanding between the Office of the Head of the Civil Service and NSITF, the launch of an Employees’ Compensation Scheme Help Desk, and urged continued compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
