Nigeria's NYSC Requires NERD Certificate for Mobilization, Closes Osun Orientation Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) announced that graduates must present a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) to be mobilised for national service. Director‑General Olakunle Nafiu said the move, aligning with a federal directive, aims to curb certificate fraud and improve the credibility of the mobilisation process. He urged corps‑producing institutions, regulatory agencies and security bodies to educate students on the requirement and cooperate to ensure a transparent transition from school to service.

In Osun State, NYSC concluded the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation camp with a ceremony at the permanent camp in Ede. State Coordinator Ekeng Kubiangha praised participants for discipline and highlighted the three‑week program’s focus on paramilitary drills, leadership, security awareness, citizenship education and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. He urged corps members to settle swiftly into their primary assignments, remain neutral during the upcoming gubernatorial election, avoid partisan politics and social‑media misinformation, and continue community‑development projects. The ceremony featured a donation of a metal door for the camp’s broadcasting studio and the presentation of awards to outstanding staff and collaborators.
