Nigeria's NYSC teams with NADDC to certify youth as CNG technicians

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has signed a three‑year Memorandum of Understanding with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi‑CNG) in Abuja. The agreement integrates CNG retrofitting and maintenance training into NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, allowing corps members to become certified CNG technicians.

Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, NYSC Director‑General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, NADDC Director‑General Otunba Joseph Osanipin and Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives Dr Titilope Gbadamosi highlighted that the partnership will equip thousands of graduates with market‑relevant skills, support Nigeria’s clean‑energy transition, and generate up to 5,000 jobs for young people.

The SAED programme already reaches over 300,000 corps members annually, with more than 1.5 million having participated in post‑camp trainings nationwide. The new CNG curriculum aims to produce engineers who are practically competent and enterprise‑ready, bolstering the country’s emerging automotive and clean‑energy sectors.
