Nigeria's Omega University in Kaduna Receives Operational Licence from NUC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) granted an operational licence to Omega University, a private faith‑based institution in Kaduna, ending its proposed status. The licence, presented by NUC Executive Secretary Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu in Abuja, authorises the university to begin academic activities and admit its pioneer students for the 2026/2027 session.

The NUC approved ten undergraduate programmes for the new university and appointed Kaduna State University as a mentor institution to provide academic guidance and technical support. Ribadu urged the university’s management to maintain quality standards and compliance with regulatory guidelines. The approval is part of Nigeria’s effort to expand access to tertiary education through the licensing of private universities.
