Nigeria's Oyo and Kwara States Offer Free Hepatitis B Screenings on World Hepatitis Day
The Femi Olutoye Foundation (FOF) organized a free Hepatitis B screening for 150 students and staff of Best Legacy College of Education in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as part of its “Pause for the Cause” campaign marking World Hepatitis Day 2026. Participants received health education on transmission, prevention and vaccination, followed by on‑site testing, counselling and referrals for those with reactive results.
In Ilorin, Kwara State, the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital partnered with the Kwara State Ministry of Health to hold a public awareness event at the Emir’s Palace. The programme, titled “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down,” included free screening, medical tests and counselling, and featured remarks from Dr Bola Abdulkadir, chief medical director of KWASUTH, and Hepatitis Desk Officer Alaya Gbemisola. The campaign aimed to improve early detection, vaccination uptake and treatment access to help eliminate viral hepatitis in the state.
