Nigeria's PEBEC Showcases Student Innovations and Small‑Business Tax Relief

University teams from Port Harcourt and Benin won the South‑South segment of the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad, presenting a smart energy door lock called KEYTRIC and an Intelligent Real‑time Interface (IRIS) that helps visually impaired users see their surroundings. Judges highlighted the prototypes as market‑viable solutions that address local challenges, underscoring PEBEC’s goal of fostering home‑grown technology from Nigerian universities.

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) announced that President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform exempts businesses earning less than three million naira from tax, provides free company registration for nano‑enterprises, and expands SMEDAN grants to support small firms. PEBEC’s sub‑national tour began in Plateau State, where officials met with stakeholders to strengthen state‑level implementation of these business‑friendly policies and improve Nigeria’s ease‑of‑doing‑business rankings.
