Nigeria's Pharmacy Council seals 383 drug outlets in Ogun State

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) sealed 383 pharmaceutical premises in Ogun State after a four‑day enforcement operation that inspected 738 outlets across 11 local government areas. The closures included 123 licensed pharmacies, 87 patent medicine stores and all 173 unregistered or illegal outlets.

Violations cited were operating without a PCN licence, poor medicine storage, unauthorised access to controlled drugs, obstruction of inspectors, cooking on premises and illegal apprenticeship. PCN officials warned that such practices threaten public health by contributing to treatment failure, antimicrobial resistance and potential diversion of controlled medicines into criminal networks. The action aligns with the federal government's universal health‑coverage agenda to ensure safe, quality‑assured medicines.
