Nigeria's Rainy-Season Farming Guides: Fertilizer Use and Snail Farming

Nigeria's rainy season is a critical period for crop production, and proper fertilizer application can boost yields while avoiding waste. Experts advise applying fertilizer after seedlings are well‑established—typically 2–3 weeks after planting maize, with split applications for rice, and 4–8 weeks for cassava—so nutrients are absorbed before heavy rains can wash them away.

The same season also offers optimal conditions for snail farming. Moist, cool weather supports the growth of giant African land snails, especially Archachatina marginata and Achatina achatina. Successful farms use well‑ventilated, shaded pens with loose, organic‑rich soil, manage moisture to prevent flooding, and feed snails a diet of locally available leafy vegetables and calcium sources.
