Nigeria's Federal Road Safety Corps reports 27% drop in road crashes during Eid‑el‑Kabir

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) announced that road traffic crashes during the 2026 Eid‑el‑Kabir special patrol operations fell by 27%, decreasing from 191 incidents in 2025 to 142 in 2026. The number of people involved in crashes dropped by 22%, from 1,364 to 1,064, and injuries fell by about 25.4%, from 576 to 430.

Corps Public Education Officer Osondu Ohaeri attributed the improvement to aggressive traffic‑management measures, intensified patrols, public‑awareness campaigns, robust enforcement and faster emergency response. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed praised the work of FRSC personnel, Special Marshals and partner agencies, noting that the coordinated effort protected hundreds of lives and spared families the consequences of road accidents. The FRSC deployed roughly 36,000 personnel and a range of assets across critical corridors to achieve the results, and urged motorists to maintain safe practices beyond the festive period.
