Nigeria's Security Challenges Highlight Inter‑Agency Rivalry and Highway Impunity

At a book launch in Abuja, NSCDC Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu warned that inter‑agency rivalry and a lack of coordination among Nigeria’s security forces are hampering the fight against insecurity. He called for a united front, urging shared intelligence between the Department of State Services, the police and the military. Senator Adams Oshiomhole and the defence ministry echoed the need for cooperation and intelligence sharing.

The Federal Road Safety Corps recently carried out Operation Guduma, a five‑day nationwide crackdown on highway impunity across 11 states. The operation recorded 1,691 arrests, including five suspects using fake diplomatic licence plates, 683 drivers for overloading or unsafe cargo, and 1,003 for general number‑plate violations. Officials said the sweep targets a security threat posed by fraudulent vehicle identification and unsafe loads on major roads.
