Nigeria's SGF George Akume Highlights Japan Partnership and National Unity

Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume said Nigeria remains committed to deepening its strategic partnership with Japan, urging greater Japanese investment in sectors such as renewable energy, clean technology and infrastructure. He noted that 57 Japanese firms already operate in Nigeria and praised the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s role in financing critical projects, calling for expanded scholarship and technical‑training programmes.

Akume also described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “detribalised” and inclusive leader who promotes national unity, merit and equal opportunity. Speaking to the Nigerian Fulani Community Support Group, he urged cooperation with groups fostering peace and development, and pledged government consideration of their requests ahead of the 2027 elections.
