Nigeria's Shehu Mohammed Leads Road Safety Push at UN Meeting

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, addressed world leaders at the United Nations High‑Level Meeting on Global Road Safety in New York. He highlighted Nigeria’s renewed commitment to the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030 and the national Road Safety Strategy 2021–2030, stressing the need for better enforcement technology, infrastructure, and institutional capacity.

Mohammed cited the WHO Global Status Report showing Africa’s highest road‑traffic fatality rate and urged a whole‑of‑government approach coordinated by the National Road Safety Advisory Council, chaired by the Vice President, to close remaining gaps and position Nigeria as a contributor to global road‑safety solutions.
