Nigeria's Social Democratic Party Chairman Gombe Vows Prosecution of Former Officials

Prof. Abubakar Sadique Gombe, national chairman of Nigeria’s Social Democratic Party (SDP), said the party will continue to pursue criminal charges against former party officials for alleged financial misconduct despite the court's adjournment of the case to 17 August 2026. The magistrate court in Abuja cancelled the hearing due to unforeseen circumstances, prompting Gombe to confirm a new date and affirm that the prosecution team, lawyers and witnesses were already prepared.

Gombe asserted that the SDP has gathered bank statements and other documentary evidence indicating criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and suspicious payments, including dozens of transfers to a former youth leader who was not responsible for party finances. He dismissed claims that the delay was caused by the party, insisting the SDP has consistently appeared in court and that the evidence will be presented at the next hearing.
