Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu praised Governor Alex Otti for making Abia State peaceful, warned that any state police must be anchored on accountability and professionalism and must never become a tool for political repression. Kalu also welcomed the federal decision to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions and recruit about 28,000 additional personnel. Defence Minister General Christopher Musa stressed that security in the South‑East requires more than military action, calling for good governance, economic development, community engagement and strategic partnerships.
