Nigeria investigation uncovers fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council
An investigation into the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has revealed it to be a fictitious agency. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) confirmed that the organization has no legal foundation and was not established by statute or executive order. Adeniyi Matthew Adeyemi, who styled himself as the Director-General, was never officially appointed by the Federal Government.
Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have raised concerns regarding documents that allegedly listed President Bola Tinubu and several senior cabinet ministers as members of the PFIPC's governing board. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is under scrutiny for issuing seven official vehicle number plates to the organization based on these documents. While the FRSC maintains it followed standard operating procedures, the committee questioned why the unusual board composition did not trigger further verification.
The Nigeria Police Force has identified five government officials, including directors in the Office of the Accountant-General and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, who allegedly facilitated the activities of the fake agency. The State House has also denied any knowledge of the council or any correspondence requesting its creation. Investigators also uncovered two additional fraudulent bodies, the FCT Investment Promotion Agency and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency, linked to the same scheme.
