Nigeria's State Police Bill Passes; US Congressman Riley Moore Commends

Nigeria’s House of Representatives approved the State Police Bill, allowing each of the 36 states to establish its own police force alongside the Federal Nigeria Police Force. The legislation passed with 289 votes in favour, one against and one abstention, and now requires Senate approval, ratification by at least 24 state assemblies and presidential assent to become law.

U.S. Representative Riley Moore praised the move, saying it will help curb the alleged persecution of Christians and improve security. Moore noted he discussed the proposal with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu during her Washington visit and thanked President Bola Tinubu for backing the bill. He cautioned that further steps are needed before state police forces are operational.
