Guinea-Bissau defeats Nigeria 3-0 in AFCON 2027 qualifier

Guinea-Bissau secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Nigeria in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying Group L match at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau. The win places Guinea-Bissau at the top of the group with six points, while Nigeria remains in second place with three points.

Franculino Djú opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute. Mama Baldé doubled the lead in the 66th minute, and Álvaro Djaló sealed the win with a goal in stoppage time. Despite tactical changes from Nigeria's head coach Eric Chelle, including the introduction of Moses Simon and George Ilenikhena, the Super Eagles were unable to find the net.

The result puts Nigeria's qualification hopes in jeopardy, as only the top team in Group L will secure a spot in the tournament due to Tanzania's status as a co-host. Nigeria will need to perform strongly in their remaining four matches to stay in contention.
